“The publication of the new novel from Colombia’s foremost writer has been brought forward after pirated copies went on sale across the country.”
It seems amazing to me, surrounded by media, industry and government uproar about copyright theft and piracy of music through the creation, duplication and distribution of MP3 files (something that is virtually impossible to track or halt, a process that takes all of a minute to complete), that in a country like Colombia, people are pirating books. How much effort does it require to not only source a proof-copy or an edited manuscript, typeset it and print a few thousand copies? Mind-boggling.
Old-school crime!
